STORYTELLING
What makes a story unique and memorable?
This course will unveil the mysterious spell and secrets of storytelling, from its ancestral roots to its contemporary forms. Every traditional or innovative form of storytelling always begins with writing. That is why you will learn how to use universal principles of structure and composition to shape the space and time of a story.
In a vast journey through literature, painting, photography, music, and film, you will understand the deep connection between words, images, and sound in conveying the essence of a narrative world by awakening perceptions and feelings.
We will focus on the architecture of stories and images, beginning with composition and the use of space, color and the five senses. We will see how great artists are able to manipulate our perceptions and create the kind of experience that viewers seek when they immerse themselves in contemporary narratives.
We will explore genres that are very popular today: crime, musicals, animation, documentaries, fantasy, science fiction and superhero, to see how stories are transformed depending on formats and platforms, but always resonate with the spirit of their times.
Finally, you’ll learn how to combine words, images, and sound to create your own narrative world.
Whether your goal is to write short stories, novels, movies, TV series, comic books, poems or a theatre play, a travel guide or a personal memoir, telling a story always reflects the influence between life, art, and reality as you perceive it.
Here you will learn how to use your own voice to evoke presence, atmosphere, emotion, urgency, and meaning through your stories.
There will be a cloud platform dedicated to the class, where students will be able to download documents as well as upload exercises and watch recordings of lessons.
